According to HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto on Tuesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached a two-way contract agreement with Nochard Omir. Details regarding the contract's length and other specifics are currently unavailable.
To make room for Omer's two-way roster spot, the Timberwolves decided to waive 26-year-old power forward Enrique Freeman. Freeman had played four regular-season games for the Timberwolves before being waived and is currently expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to injury.
Omer, 25, is a 2.01-meter tall, 112-kilogram power forward who went undrafted in the NBA and will play in the G League in 2025. Last season, he played 38 games for the Cleveland Clippers and San Diego Clippers, averaging 18.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals in 29.3 minutes per game, ultimately earning a spot on the G League All-Rookie Team.
Based on his outstanding performance in the G League, Omer was once recruited into the NBA rotation by the Los Angeles Clippers. He thus became the first NBA player born in Nicaragua, and played 6 regular season games for the Clippers, averaging 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in 4.0 minutes, shooting 7-for-10.
Because the Clippers did not offer Omer a qualifying offer, he officially became a free agent this summer. He then signed a training camp contract with the Timberwolves, but was waived before the start of the regular season.
According to NBA regulations, Omer can play a maximum of 46 regular season games for the Timberwolves this season. To earn a chance to play in the playoffs, he must convince the Timberwolves to convert his contract to a standard contract before the end of the regular season.
