Sunderland announced on their official website on Tuesday that the club has extended the contract of its Netherlands international center forward Brian Brobbey.
According to Sunderland's official statement, Brobbey has signed on a new long-term five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2031.
After completing his contract extension procedures, Brobbey, who was interviewed by the Sunderland official website again, said: "I am very happy to have the club's trust. Ever since I arrived here, I’ve felt the ambition within the club, and I am eager to keep growing and improving."
"It is a tremendous honour to represent Sunderland in the Premier League. I am incredibly proud to have helped the team qualify for European competition—this will surely go down as a significant chapter in the club's history."
"I know there is still room for me to improve, and that is what drives me to work hard every single day. I want to score goals, help the team, and bring glory to our fans."
About Brian Brobbey
The 24-year-old Brobbey was born on February 1, 2002 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He is 1.84 meters tall and plays as a center-forward. He holds dual Dutch and Ghanaian citizenship, and comes from a footballing family. His older brothers, Derrick Luckassen and Kevin Luckassen, as well as his younger brother, Samuel Brobbey, are all professional footballers.
Brobbey joined the Ajax youth academy in 2010 and was promoted to the Ajax reserve team in the summer of 2018. He made his official first-team debut on October 31, 2020, coming on as a substitute.
After his contract with Ajax expired in the summer of 2021, Brobbey moved to the Bundesliga to join RB Leipzig on a free transfer.
However, finding himself frequently on the bench with limited playing opportunities, he returned to Ajax on-loan during the winter transfer window in2022.
Upon returning to the fold of the Godezonnen, Brobbey made an immediate impact, scoring numerous goals over the span of just six months and helping the team successfully defend their Eredivisie title.
The following summer, Ajax triggered the buyout clause in his contract.
On the 2025 summer transfer window deadline day, Brobbey joined Sunderland for a fee of €20 million.
Since becoming a Black Cat, Brobbey has so far made 40 appearances for the Premier League club across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing one assist.
