The Athletic's resident renowned Liverpool team correspondent James Pearce, exclusively reported on Sunday that Flamengo's Head of Scouting Andrii Fedechenkov is set to join Liverpool.
According to Pearce, Fedechenkov will leave Flamengo when his contract expires at the end of December. He is expected to officially join Liverpool’s scouting department in January, once the winter transfer window opens and his UK work permit is secured.
As his contract is expiring, Fedechenkov will join on a free transfer, meaning Liverpool will not be required to pay any transfer fee or compensation to Flamengo.
Fedechenkov’s arrival will fill the vacancy left by the departure of former head of scouting Craig McKee.
McKee, who ended his 14-year tenure at the club that began in 2012, along with former sporting director Richard Hughes, left the club after the summer transfer window closed,
Both individuals subsequently joined the Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal in mid-September.
At Liverpool, Fedechenkov will work closely with lead data analyst Will Spearman, utilizing advanced data—including video, imagery, and other technological insights—to help the club identify promising young talents from across the globe.
Furthermore, sources cited by Pearce indicate that the club’s new sporting director, Julian Ward, values Fedechenkov for his innovative mindset, his commitment to continuous improvement, and his fluency in multiple languages.
These attributes are considered vital for the Premier League side, which has, over the past two years, renewed its focus on recruiting high-potential young prospects from around the world into its youth academy, with the aim of developing them into future first-team regulars.
About Andrii Fedechenkov
Andrii Fedechenkov, 30, was born on March 16, 1996, in Lviv, Ukraine. He previously worked as a scout for Karpaty Lviv and Shakhtar Donetsk, where he played a role in identifying talents such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Heorhiy Sudakov, Anatoliy Trubin, Manor Solomon, Lassina Traoré, David Neres, and Vinícius Tobias.
From December 2021 to November 2023, Fedechenkov served as the Head of Scouting for PAOK Thessaloniki. During his tenure, he helped facilitate the signings of several players who had been discarded by Premier League clubs but went on to perform well.
In February 2024, Fedechenkov was appointed as a scout for Cardiff City. However, as the Welsh club was grappling with issues including debt and poor on-field performance, he ultimately chose to resign following the close of the winter transfer window.
After leaving the Bluebirds, Fedechenkov joined Flamengo in February 2025, marking his first professional stint with a club outside of Europe.
During his time there, Fedechenkov played a pivotal role in helping the reigning Campeonato Brasileiro Série A champions secure several Brazilian international star players, including Jorginho, Emerson Royal, Lucas Paquetá, Danilo, and Samuel Lino, who had previously featured for major European clubs.
