Premier League – Rodgers and Palmer both scored as Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 home victory over ten-man Manchester United.

In the 9th round of the 2026/27 Premier League season, Chelsea defeated ten-man Manchester United 2-0 at home. They are currently ranked third with 16 points from 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses, 5 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Manchester United have slipped to 17th in the Premier League standings, with a record of 1 win, 4 draws and 4 losses.

Both teams had their chances in the first half, but neither managed to score. In the 15th minute, Pedro Neto's shot inside the penalty area forced a save from Sena Lamens, but Esterwane's follow-up shot was ruled offside by the linesman. In the 19th minute, Brian Mbomo broke down the right wing and crossed into the penalty area, but Bruno Fernandes' follow-up shot went high and wide. In the 22nd minute, Levi Colwell and Wesley Fofana combined with a header inside the penalty area, but it was easily caught by Lamens.

In the 32nd minute, Fofana was dispossessed by Amad Diallo in his own half, but he tracked back in time to prevent Diallo from taking a shot. In the 34th minute, Matheus Cunha headed in a cross from Harry Maguire, but the shot was disallowed for offside after a VAR review. In the 43rd minute, Bruno Fernandes sent a long pass from the back, and Diallo broke into the penalty area but his shot missed the target.

In the 44th minute, Pedro Neto dispossessed Maguire and broke into the penalty area, then fired a low shot that grazed the post. In the 45th minute, Romeo Lavia sent a long pass from his own half, and Esteban broke into the penalty area from the right wing before unleashing a shot that was saved by Lamenz.

The second half began with both sides switching ends. In the 50th minute, Chelsea finally broke the deadlock: Morgan Rodgers started from midfield, making a long run and scoring a solo goal. In the 61st minute, Chelsea's Inlissandro Martinez elbowed Fofana in the penalty area, earning a penalty which Cole Palmer converted to make it 2-0. Lima was also shown a second yellow card and sent off, forcing Manchester United to play with ten men for the remainder of the match.

In the 71st minute, Palmer passed the ball from the right side of the penalty arc, and Esterwane's follow-up shot was ruled offside again. Neither side managed to score again, and the final score remained 2-0.
