The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on Tuesday the official appointment of 53-year-old Turkish football legend Selgen Yalcin as the national team coach. A four-year contract was signed, valid until the end of the 2030 World Cup.
Yalcin had an accomplished playing career, winning six Turkish Super League titles, three Turkish Cup titles, and two Turkish Super Cup titles with Besiktas and Galatasaray. After retiring, he coached Gaziantep, Sivas, Kaseli, Eskisahhi, Konya, Alan Yasbone, Yenimarajesbone, and Besiktas, leading Besiktas to one Turkish Super League title and one Turkish Cup title.
Yalcin's appointment as head coach of Turkey, succeeding Vincenzo Montella, marks his return to professional football after a five-month hiatus. Speaking to KAFA Sports about his appointment, Yalcin couldn't hide his excitement: "This is a very important task. The Turkish national team comes first. This is a position every coach dreams of. To be the people's coach is a wonderful thing, and I feel incredibly proud and happy. With everyone's support, I hope a successful national team journey awaits us."
For Yarchin, his primary task upon taking office is to lead Turkey to a good result in the UEFA Nations League group stage in November. According to the schedule, Turkey's opponents are Belgium on the 12th and France on the 15th.
