After suffering an eight-game winless streak across all competitions and marking their worst league start in nearly 40 years, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick did not resign as expected.
Following a series of closed-door meetings among Manchester United's top management, Carrick has confirmed he will remain in charge of the team for this Saturday's crucial Premier League match against Chelsea away from home.
Carrick took over Manchester United in January as Amorim's successor, leading the team to a Champions League spot, and subsequently signed a two-year contract extension with the club in the summer. However, after a humiliating 0-3 home defeat to Bournemouth last Sunday, speculation was widespread that his tenure was coming to an end. After discussions, the Manchester United management ultimately decided to give him the trust to continue managing the club.
Amidst widespread rumors of his dismissal, Carrick stated in an interview that he was not surprised to remain in his position: "I'm here to do my job and give my all for this team. I'm extremely eager to make the team better and improve the current situation, so I'm not surprised."
When asked about the atmosphere at the stadium after the loss to Bournemouth, Carrick said: "There's no denying that the atmosphere at the stadium was a bit different than usual, and I've been processing that. But all I was thinking about was what we needed to do to make things better."
Despite the club's lengthy evaluation and communication process before deciding to retain him, Carrick emphasized that he never sought assurances from management. He calmly stated, "I don't need any guarantees from anyone."
“I fully understand the current situation, this job, the responsibilities it carries, and everything that comes with it. I only focus on what I need to pay attention to. What I really care about is the fans’ thoughts and the feeling in the stadium. I completely ignore everything else.”
