Manchester United's Slovenia international striker Benjamin Šeško is expected to remain sidelined until January 2027 due to a shin injury..

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Manchester United's Slovenia international striker Benjamin Šeško, is expected to remain sidelined until January due to a shin injury.

According to the report, while Šeško’s recovery is progressing well, Manchester United’s medical staff are in frequent consultation with specialists to determine the optimal treatment plan, ensuring he returns to action in the best possible condition.

To allow for a proper recovery and avoid rushing his return, which could risk a recurrence of the injury, Manchester United plans to keep him out until January.

The 23-year-old Slovenia international last featured on September 16, when he started in an Carabao Cup match against Brighton, a game the team ultimately lost.

This current issue is linked to a problem he encountered last season. He sustained a knock to his lower leg but continued to play through the final two months of the campaign to help the team push for Champions League qualification.

Last season, a challenge from Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté exacerbated the injury, forcing Šeško to miss the final three matches of the season. Prior to that incident, he had scored a goal to help his side take a 2-0 lead.

At the time, the club determined that rest was a better course of action than surgery, which led to him sitting out the pre-season. Now, with the injury recurring in a similar area of his leg, he faces the same dilemma once again.

While this is not a chronic, long-term condition, all parties are keen to ensure he is fully recovered upon his return, thereby minimizing the risk of any further setbacks.

Back in June, Šeško was a frequent presence at the Carrington training ground, pushing hard for a return in August; he even made a substitute appearance in the season opener against Hull City.

Prior to this injury, Šeško had almost never been sidelined. The time he has spent out of action during his stint with the Red Devils is already more than double the total time he missed throughout the previous six seasons of his professional career.

Meanwhile, the outlet's resident renowned Manchester United team correspondent Laurie Whitwell added that, with Šeško currently sidelined, the club may consider making new signings during the January transfer window to address their shortage of options in the forward line.

The Red Devils have identified Leeds United’s Englan international forward, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as a potential target.

However, as Leeds United have no intention of selling the player, Manchester United would face significant hurdles in any attempt to bring him in.

Last season, Šeško scored 12 goals for the Premier League giants, and so far this season, he has already netted twice in six appearances.
