Inter Milan were somewhat lucky to beat Venezia Chivu away from home.

Inter Milan defeated Venezia 2-0 in a key match of the 9th round of the 2026/27 Serie A season, despite two own goals from Venezia players. Chivu stated that his team lacked energy in the game, making the victory somewhat fortunate.

In the 79th minute of the second half, Thuram dribbled into the penalty area and passed the ball across. Venezia defender Matthias Moreno inadvertently kicked the ball into his own net while clearing it, giving Inter Milan a 1-0 lead.

In the 82nd minute, Çalhanoğlu took a corner kick, and Augusto headed the ball towards the goal, but Hallerhale deflected it into his own net, giving Inter Milan a 2-0 lead.

Inter Milan ultimately defeated Venezia 2-0 away from home. After securing their fourth consecutive victory, Inter Milan currently sits atop the Serie A standings with 25 points. Furthermore, in the next round of Serie A, Inter Milan will face AC Milan in a city derby.

Inter Milan coach Chivu said, "We lacked energy, some of our movements were too slow, and we were caught off guard by the opponent's low press. We were unable to pick up the pace of our attack and break down their defense in time. However, with a game every three days, this kind of situation is inevitable."

"Objectively speaking, we were indeed a bit lucky to win the game. We never gave up and gave it our all, but we have to admit that we were indeed lucky. Such games happen all the time, and sometimes the team lacks enough conviction and even feels that we can get through by just putting on the bare minimum. However, we must also commend our opponents, who limited our space with their tight defense, making it difficult for us to exert our full potential."

Kivu pointed out, "Providel helped us stabilize the situation, and ultimately it was our experience, strength, and determination that allowed the team to overcome the difficulties. We will enter the derby with 25 points, and we know where we are and that we must give our best performance. With only a few days until the match, we must recover our physical condition as soon as possible, especially our mental state."

“Augusto has been performing well, and we've deployed him in a three-center-back system to guard against the opponent's quick counter-attacks. However, his physical condition isn't at its best. He remains focused and gives his all every time he's on the pitch. He's been a great help to the team recently, as have the other players.”

In addition, Kivu stated, "After such a successful year, maintaining a good state and high level of focus from the very beginning is never an easy task. We have been working hard to stay focused, not to be blinded by past achievements, and to continue with the same strong fighting spirit in the pursuit of new goals."

“I have a very committed team, and the players are always giving their all. But we need additional motivation to generate that kind of determination because there are so many games in a long season that require that kind of fighting spirit.”
