The Los Angeles Lakers announced Wednesday that they have officially signed Lawson Lovelin, who was recently waived. The news was first reported by NBA insider Michael Scotto and subsequently confirmed by the Lakers.
Lovelin signed a training camp contract with the Memphis Grizzlies this summer, but became a free agent after being waived in late September. His move to the Lakers means he found a new team in just one month.
According to the official announcement, Lovelin has reached a two-way contract with the Lakers. Besides him, the Lakers currently have Chris Manon and Arthur Caruma on two-way contracts.
Lovelin, 23, is a 6'3" center with a 6'3" wingspan. He joined the Memphis Clippers, the Grizzlies' G League affiliate, as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He earned his first NBA opportunity this February after signing a 10-day contract with the Grizzlies.
To date, Loflin has played 30 games for the Memphis Clippers, averaging 7.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 27.1 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 59.2%. He also played two regular season games for the Grizzlies, averaging 14 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 3 steals on 6-of-10 shooting in 24.5 minutes per game.
To make room for Loflin, the Lakers have decided to waive this year's undrafted player, AK Okleek. Okleek signed a two-way contract with the Lakers in July but has yet to make his NBA debut.
