In a previous interview, NBA point guard Ja Morant recalled how he mentally recovered from his injury and emphasized that even in difficult times, it's important to try to find the positive side.
Ja Morant, 27, previously played for the Memphis Grizzlies and was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in June of this year.
In January of this year, Ja Morant suffered a left elbow collateral ligament sprain in a game against Atlanta, and as a result, he will only play 20 games for the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2025/26 NBA regular season.
Ja Morant shared, "The recovery process was really tough. I really wanted to play, but I knew I couldn't. I think that was the hardest part. I don't think anyone in this league would choose not to play when they're clearly fit, unless the situation would be that if I played, the injury might get worse, or there would be a similar risk."
"Psychologically speaking, this can also lead to a depressed mood. In fact, it can even make people start to doubt everything, such as why me? Why at this time?"
Ja Morant stated, "For us, basketball is our profession. A player's goal is to play at the highest level. When we finally get the opportunity to compete at the highest level, we get injured and have to watch ourselves unable to play."
"And for us, we had teammates we were willing to fight for. We trained together every day and went through all sorts of things together. So, of course I really wanted to play with them. What's more, it was the playoffs, and we had a chance to compete for the championship, which was really tough."
In addition, Ja Morant said, "However, I think that no matter what happens, you have to find the positive side of negative experiences. That's what I tried to do at the time. Although it took me some time, I eventually got through it."
