Official: The Mavericks have exercised the team option for the third year of Flagg's rookie contract.

The Dallas Mavericks announced on Saturday that they have exercised the team option for the third year of Cooper Flagg's rookie contract. With the option now fully exercised, Flagg's salary of approximately $15.21 million for the 2027/28 season is now guaranteed.

The 19-year-old Flagg is a 2.08-meter tall, 93-kilogram swingman who will enter the NBA as the number one overall pick in 2025. As the 2025/26 Rookie of the Year, he has started 70 regular season games for the Mavericks, averaging 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 33.5 minutes per game, becoming the only player in the league that season to lead his team in all four statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, and steals.

Despite Flagg's outstanding performance, the Mavericks finished only 12th in the Western Conference last season. With Kyrie Irving recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee, the Mavericks hope the two can team up again to lead the team back into championship contention next season.

The Mavericks simultaneously waived Randy and Prakidas.

While securing Flagg's future, the Mavericks also cleared out some surplus players. They cut two guards in one go: 26-year-old Seth Randy and 23-year-old John Prakidas.

Prakidas currently holds a two-way contract for about eight months and has played three games for the Mavericks during the preseason, averaging 7.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game. Randy signed a training camp contract with the Mavericks in September and has averaged 5.5 points and 0.5 steals per game in four preseason games.
