Xabi Alonso hopes Chelsea will achieve more clean sheets in the future.

Chelsea defeated Everton 2-0 in the seventh round of the 2026/27 Premier League season, thanks to a brace from Pedro Neto in the second half. Xabi Alonso, in an interview, said it was a fantastic victory, but also hoped the Blues could keep more clean sheets in the future.

Shortly after the start of the second half, Morgan Rodgers orchestrated an attack. Jorel Hatto dribbled into the penalty area and passed the ball back, but it was cleared. Pedro Neto then received the ball and slotted it home, giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead.

In the 90th minute, Chelsea won a free kick. Henderson took a long-range shot, but it was blocked by an opposing player. Pedro Neto then received the ball, dealt with the defense, and slotted it into the net, extending Chelsea's lead to 2-0.

Chelsea ultimately defeated Everton 2-0 away from home. With this second consecutive win, Chelsea currently sits in fourth place in the league table with 13 points.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said, "We are very happy with the result and the team's performance. We needed an away win like this. The team played professionally, seriously and solidly. It was a very good win, and we did a great job in many ways."

“We have the ability to control the game, but at times we have to focus on defense, especially in the first half. Overall, the team showed maturity. The players know what to do in different situations and know that our chances will eventually come.”

Xabi Alonso pointed out, "We performed excellently in terms of possession in the second half and created chances while not giving the opponent many opportunities. Winning away from home is never easy, and we also kept a clean sheet. We knew it was only a matter of time, and now we have finally done it."

“We must keep working hard, after all, this is just one game. It would be terrible to only keep one clean sheet all season. We need to keep more clean sheets in the remaining league games. It feels great to have our first clean sheet of the season, and we must maintain this momentum and believe that we can perform as efficiently as we did in this game, no matter which team we face away from home.”

Furthermore, when discussing Pedro Neto, who scored for Chelsea, Xabi Alonso said, "Pedro Neto has outstanding abilities. He is always able to create threats and is very competitive. He can run, make one-on-one breakthroughs, and score goals."

“When he’s near a key position, he can pose a threat to any full-back. When he’s at the forefront of the attack or between the lines, he also builds great understanding with his teammates, including João Pedro, Palmer, and Achampong. Their teamwork is excellent, and I’m delighted to see Pedro Neto score a goal.”
