Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer dismissed reports claiming that claiming that the club is planning to

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer firmly denied reports claiming that the club is planning to "rescue" Liverpool's Germany international attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz during the January transfer window in an interview with German media outlet BILD, dismissing the rumours as untrue.

Hainer said, as a German, he regrets that the player has yet to replicate the stellar form he displayed while at Bayer Leverkusen, a situation that is also less than ideal for the Germany national team. That said, Bayern remains very satisfied with its current squad.

"First of all, there is no doubt that Florian Wirtz is an extraordinary player," Hainer said. "It’s a pity he hasn’t been able to show the same form in England that he did at Bayer Leverkusen; I actually feel a bit sorry for him, especially since the German national team needs him, too."

"We have a high-quality squad and are very happy with our current setup. Therefore, [signing him] is simply not something we are considering."

Similarly, BILD's reisdent renowned German transfer news journalist Christian Falk has dismissed these rumors, pointing out that Wirtz is clearly Liverpool's key, first-choice midfielder.

Regardless of any external criticism, he remains one of manager Andoni Iraola’s most trusted players, a fact evidenced by his consistent presence in the starting lineup.

Furthermore, with his contract running until the summer of 2030, and following a record-breaking performance against Brentford in the last round, where he created nine major big scoring opporunities, it is evident that those questioning his form and spreading such rumours lack any real understanding of data analysis.

It is worth mentioning that even before the current season began, the notorious, low-quality British online outlet TeamTalk had been churning out rumours every few weeks, falsely claiming that Bayern Munich was poised to "rescue" Wirtz during every single transfer window.

Since no one has ever responded to or refuted their rumors, TeamTalk has felt emboldened to continue spreading malicious, baseless claims linking Wirtz to the reigning Bundesliga champions, assuming no one will ever put a stop to it.

About Florian Wirtz

The 23-year-old Wirtz was born on May 3, 2003, in Pulheim, Germany. He is 1.77 meters tall and primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a left or right winger.

Wirtz spent his youth career at 1. FC Köln before moving to the Bayer Leverkusen youth academy in 2019. He completed his Leverkusen first-team debut in a Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen in May 2020.

Thanks to his exceptional performances, Wirtz, alongside Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, has garnered global attention as one of the brightest young midfield talents in Germany and across European football.

During his five-year tenure with Die Werkself, Wirtz won one Bundesliga title, one DFB-Pokal, and one DFL-Super Cup, while also reaching the UEFA Europa League final with the club.

In July 2025, Wirtz joined Liverpool in a blockbuster transfer deal worth up to €188 million, making him one of the most expensive attacking midfielders in the UK, Germany, and the world.

Since joining the Reds, so far Wirtz has made 58 appearances for the Premier League giants across all competitions, scoring 7 goals, providing 13 assists, where he has also helped the team reach the quarter-finals of both the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Champions League once each.
