Bournemouth cruised to a 3-0 victory over Italian giants AC Milan in the third round of the UEFA Europa League, thanks to goals from Kluivert, Taffonier, and Armin Adli. Marco Rose expressed his pride in the club and players, praising the "Bernards" for their outstanding performance in dominating their opponents.
AC Milan defender Koni de Winter made contact with the ball with his hand while attempting a clearance in the 5th minute, and after VAR intervention, the referee awarded a penalty. Kluivert then converted the penalty, giving Bournemouth a 1-0 lead.
In the 27th minute, Kluivert took a corner kick, and AC Milan goalkeeper Maignan pushed Taylor Adams with his hand as he attempted to clear the ball. The referee awarded Bournemouth a penalty and showed Maignan a red card. Taffonier then converted the penalty, giving Bournemouth a 2-0 lead over AC Milan.
In the 84th minute of the second half, Armin Adli scored a long-range free kick, extending Bournemouth's lead to 3-0.
Bournemouth ultimately secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over AC Milan at home. With this third consecutive win, Bournemouth currently sits in third place in the standings with nine points, laying a solid foundation for their promotion hopes.
Bournemouth manager Marco Rose said, "I am happy for the club and the fans, and I am incredibly proud of my players. They played absolutely brilliantly from the first minute to the last. Yes, we played a fantastic game."
“Even with both sides having 11 players on the field at the same time, we had a good start. We put pressure on our opponents, actively fought for possession, and created chances. James Hill’s header created a great opportunity and ultimately won us a penalty.”
Marco Rose said, "The red card that followed certainly changed the course of the game, giving us a numerical advantage. In such situations, sometimes the team is more likely to get into trouble, like in previous games. However, we played exceptionally well in this game with a one-man advantage."
“We completely dominated our opponents and gave them absolutely no chances, which was fantastic. We later discussed what formation we wanted the team to use, and the players executed it superbly. We knew we had to stop their counter-attacks. As I said, we completely dominated them and then scored a brilliant third goal.”
When discussing the team's defensive issues in the second half, Marco Rose said, "From a tactical point of view, it might have been a wise choice, but that's not our style. That's the problem. I don't want to send that kind of signal to the team, otherwise we might get into trouble."
“Perhaps what we need to do next is to control the game through possession and secure the victory that way. But I really like this team and admire the way the players play. Yes, this may be the step we need to take.”
