Isak is happy that Liverpool kept a clean sheet.

Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Brighton in a key Premier League match of the 2026/27 season, thanks to an own goal forced by Wirtz and a goal from Isak. Isak stated that the team performed well throughout the game and was happy to keep a clean sheet.

In the 17th minute, Araujo won possession on the right wing and passed the ball back to Wirtz, who then shot. The ball struck Gross and deflected into the net, giving Liverpool a 1-0 lead.

In the 21st minute, Barkola intercepted the ball and passed it across the penalty area, where Isak slotted it home, giving Liverpool a 2-0 lead over Brighton.

Liverpool ultimately defeated Brighton 2-0 at home. Notably, this was Liverpool's first Premier League victory at Anfield this season.

Liverpool striker Isak said: "We've been waiting for this Premier League home win for so long, and it was fantastic to win like this. We beat a team in great form, played very well throughout, and kept a clean sheet. So, I'm really happy."

“We created a lot of chances in the first half, and we could have scored more goals by quickly launching counter-attacks after winning possession. Barkola did a fantastic job in that regard. For me, the most important thing is to be in the right position and put the ball in the goal.”

Isak also said, "Our overall performance was excellent. We played very steadily against a very strong team. Our performance in the first half was more in line with our game philosophy, including maintaining high intensity, actively winning back possession, and creating threats through counter-attacks. So I'm really happy, especially with the team's performance in the first half."

In addition, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said, "We are facing a very strong opponent, somewhat similar to Villarreal a few days ago. They are all very technically gifted, so defending against them is often very difficult. I think the most crucial part of this game is the opening stages. We need to play more aggressively, try to win back possession, win duels, and create threats in transitions."

“This match was different from the previous ones. In the past, we conceded the first goal and could only fight back. But in this match, we played better from the start, so the situation was completely different.”
