After Aston Villa's defeat to Bournemouth in the fourth round of the English League Cup, manager Unai Emery gave a post-match interview, candidly reviewing the game and expressing his determination for the future.
Faced with the defeat, Emery frankly expressed his frustration: "We are very disappointed. Since I took over Villa, we have played four games here, won and drawn, and lost today, but the style of play is actually the same as before."
"Playing away from home, our defense must be compact enough to stifle the opponent's chances. On the offensive end, we actually created more chances than ever before, but unfortunately we lacked finishing efficiency in front of goal today."
Despite being eliminated, Emery still saw the value in practicing the lineup in an interview and affirmed the players' efforts: "I can't blame the players, everyone gave their all. We need to look forward and summarize the positives."
"Taylor, Bizot and Goretzka all got playing time, and Ganacho played 30 minutes, which helped the new signings understand our tactical structure and competitive level, and recognize the difficulties of facing high-intensity teams like Bournemouth in the Premier League."
Speaking about the upcoming schedule of multiple competitions, Emery emphasized the strategic focus: "The League Cup is a trophy we are eager to win, but now we must turn our attention forward. Saturday's match against Fulham is the Premier League's top priority for the team right now, followed by tough matches in the Champions League and the FA Cup."
Finally, Emery paid special tribute to the away fans: "We sincerely thank the fans who traveled all the way from Birmingham to support us. Thank you all, and the whole team will continue to move forward with all our might."
