Official: Freiburg extends contract with 34-year-old right-back Lucas Kübler

Freiburg released a statement on Friday confirming the contract extension with Lucas Kübler. The club is following custom by not disclosing the contract length or other details.

The 34-year-old Kübler is a 1.82-meter-tall German right-back who played for several domestic teams, including Cologne and Sandhausen, early in his career. Since joining Freiburg on a free transfer in July 2015, he has made 247 appearances in all competitions, contributing 17 goals and 9 assists, and winning a Bundesliga 2 title and a German Cup runner-up title with the team.

After completing the contract extension, Kübler stated through official channels: "It feels great to witness the team's continuous progress. The club has long been deeply rooted in my heart, something I never expected 11 years ago. I hope to continue to maintain passion and commitment on the pitch, while also adding a touch of humor to the locker room."

Freiburg's sporting director, Clemens Hartenbach, also spoke highly of Kubler: "Kubler is someone we can always trust. He gives his all for the club day after day and fully embraces our philosophy. Whether he's on the pitch himself or encouraging his teammates from the sidelines, he always gives his all. We are delighted that such an important member of the team will continue to stand with us on the road ahead."

For Kübler, his main task after the contract extension is to help Freiburg continue their excellent start to the season. Freiburg are currently unbeaten in five consecutive league matches and are temporarily at the top of the Bundesliga table on goal difference.
