ESPN senior insider Shams Charania reported on Sunday that the Los Angeles Clippers have waived shooting guard Cam Christie and subsequently signed him to a two-way contract.
According to Charania, under this new deal, Christie will primarily play for the team’s G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers, while remaining eligible to be called up to the main roster when necessary.
This move allows the Clippers to avoid triggering the full guarantee on his standard contract for the 2026-27 season, valued at approximately $2.296 million, while also generating roughly $1.6 million in savings toward the salary cap and luxury tax.
The Los Angeles Clippers selected the 21-year-old, a product of the University of Minnesota, with the 46th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Last season, he appeared in 55 games, averaging 8.7 minutes, 2.8 points, and 1.4 rebounds per contest. He shot 38.1% from the field and 24.5% from three-point range.
Given that his perimeter shooting has consistently fallen short of the team’s expectations throughout his 68-game career to date, it is easy to understand why the Western Conference NBA franchise opted against fully guaranteeing his contract.
