In a recent interview, NBA point guard Dylan Harper said that nowadays players will face criticism no matter what they do, so instead of being negatively affected, it's better to look at and deal with the pressure from a different perspective.
Dylan Harper, 20, was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2025 NBA draft and played 69 games for the San Antonio Spurs in the 2025/26 NBA regular season, averaging 11.8 points per game with a field goal percentage of 50.5% and a three-point percentage of 33.3%.
In an earlier NBA preseason game, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Sacramento Kings 126-97, thanks to points from Dylan Harper, De'Aaron Fox, Keldon Johnson, and Viktor Wernborg.
Dylan Harper stated, "If the criticism we receive reaches this level, then there must be something we did right, that's how I see it. The reason we've attracted so much attention isn't entirely due to hatred, but rather various criticisms and discussions, so it must be because we did something right. Therefore, I'm just trying to look at things from a different perspective."
"People may keep talking about the areas where we didn't perform well, but in reality, we did far more good things than bad things, and they don't see the whole picture. I personally don't really like releasing training videos, but we do need to release some of the kind of content that Antetokounmpo has posted."
Dylan Harper shared, "I don't bring cameras to the gym; it's just practice with my teammates over and over again. I feel like everything I do gets criticized now, like my shooting form, my layups, or even my passing. It's like no matter what I do, it's wrong, and I'm stuck in a situation where everything I do is wrong."
"But as my teammates said, if they keep talking about you, it obviously means they have some kind of opinion about you. If you can attract everyone's attention, then you must be doing something right. This situation will only become more and more common, so you might as well choose not to read these comments, or simply accept them and try to find what is most helpful to you from them."
As for whether staying away from social media is another solution, Dylan Harper said, "You can certainly choose not to look, but there will always be people around you who tell you what others think of you. Even if I really delete my social media accounts, someone will still show me a post."
"Therefore, we will always see these things, and there is no way to completely avoid them."
