Araujo believes Liverpool have the ability to contend for the title.

Liverpool will host Villarreal at Anfield in the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League. In an interview, Araujo stated that he believes the Reds have the ability to compete for titles in all competitions.

Araujo, 27, joined Liverpool on loan from Barcelona in October. The defender won the La Liga title with Barcelona last season.

In the second round of the Champions League, Liverpool defeated LASK Linz 6-3 after goals from Araujo, Barkola, Frimpong and Lewis Koumas.

Araujo stated, "I know Villarreal very well and have played against them many times. They are a very strong team with many excellent players. If you give them possession, they will control a lot of the ball. I think in terms of possession, they are second only to Barcelona."

“But we also have our own excellent players, and this game is being played at our home ground, Anfield. We have our own style of play and characteristics, so we must go all out from the first minute and take control of the game. If we can do that, I think we have a chance to win.”

Araujo said, "I truly believe we have a very good squad with tremendous potential. Some players haven't been with the team for long, but they've already made a significant contribution since arriving, and I myself only joined recently. The Champions League is a very tough competition with many strong teams, and matches are often decided by subtle details."

“But I believe we have the ability to compete for titles in all competitions this season, including the Premier League and cups. We know it’s a very long season, but I believe the team is on the right track. Although we haven’t achieved particularly ideal results recently, I think the team’s training and overall operation have been excellent. We know we have a strong team and the potential to continue to grow and improve.”

Appreciate the abilities of young teammates

When discussing the challenges of joining Liverpool, Araujo shared, "Joining a club like Liverpool is not easy because the demands are very high and it means a lot of responsibility. I experienced a similar environment at Barcelona, which is also a top club with extremely high expectations for its players. We have to give our all in every game, and even if we played well in the last game, we have to continue to perform the same way in the next game."

“I’m well aware that coming to the Premier League means taking on a new challenge. But from the moment I arrived here, I had no doubt that I had to give it my all. That’s how I approach football, and that’s the professional requirement I’ve personally experienced. I will try to enjoy it all, but as I’ve said, playing at a top club is not easy, but that’s precisely why we chose to come here, and it’s the job we have to do.”

Furthermore, Araujo stated, "I'm learning English, and the coach has emphasized the importance of language learning, which I think is very true. Ultimately, I can bring my qualities, experience, and knowledge to the team. Even if I speak in Spanish, there is a common language in football. For example, when you have to shout a reminder to a teammate, they will still understand what you mean."

"Of course, we have many outstanding young players. If I were to talk about them now, I could go on and on. Our young players are all very capable and can bring a lot of help to the team. I believe they will create a very bright future for this club, and that is the most important thing."
