David Raya: I would love to move to La Liga in the future.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has stated that he hopes to have the opportunity to play in La Liga in the future.

Raya was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1995, but left his homeland at the age of 16 to train with Blackburn Rovers. Early in his professional career, he played for teams such as Blackburn Rovers and Southport in the lower leagues of England, and gradually made a name for himself while playing for Brentford.

In August 2023, Raya joined Arsenal from Brentford on a loan-to-buy deal. To date, he has made 158 appearances for Arsenal, keeping 73 clean sheets, and helping the team win the Premier League title and the Community Shield.

At the national team level, Raya primarily serves as Unai Simón's backup goalkeeper. He has made 14 appearances for Spain to date, winning the 2024 European Championship and the 2026 World Cup with the team.

Despite having spent his entire career in England, Raya is not ruling out a move to La Liga. In an interview with Marca, he stated clearly: "Would I like to play in the Spanish football league in the future? I would love to. I really want to experience La Liga, even though I'm very happy at Arsenal right now."

“I think La Liga is a very competitive league. Maybe one day in the future I will be able to play for a Spanish club. I am Spanish, so naturally I want to play in my home league.”

However, Raya is still focusing on Arsenal. When asked about his goals for this season, he replied, "My goal is to win everything. As for our goal, it's to establish ourselves as title favorites. We hope to go further this year than last season and win the Champions League. Of course, there's still a long way to go to achieve that goal."

Multiple sources have confirmed that Raya's current contract with Arsenal will expire in June 2028. In addition to him, the contracts of Martin Ødegaard, Declan Rice, Jorian Timber, Kai Havertz, Ben White, Mikel Merino, Iran Melier, and Kepa Arrizabalaga will also expire that year.
