Sheep Esports reported the tragic news on Tuesday, citing a local Finnish esports outlet that former Fnatic League of Legends jungler Cyanide has passed away at the age of 31.
According to an obituary, Cyanide died on July 31, 2026. His passing had been kept private by his family until it was recently uncovered by a local media outlet through the Finnish government’s population and census database.
Furthermore, his cause of death has not been disclosed due to privacy concerns, and his family has declined to comment on the matter.
Cyanide is the second former Fnatic player to have passed away in recent years.
In April 2025, Polish mid-laner Shushei passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 36.
The news of Cyanide’s sudden death has left many former colleagues, including Th3Antonio, as well as fans, deeply saddened.
The GIANT X wrote in his tribute that: "It’s such a tragedy... gone at such a young age... When I first got into the game, I used to watch videos of him and xPeke from their time at Fnatic. He always came across as such a wonderful person..."
The deceased former teammate, Kim Bora (ID: YellOwStaR), shared his own tribute: "Lauri (Cyanide’s real name) was so much more than just a teammate to me. We spent over two and a half years sharing every aspect of our daily lives; he was far more than just someone I fought alongside."
"He was one of the kindest, most genuine souls I’ve ever had the privilege to know. When we reunited for an exhibition match in July, he was still full of dreams, plans, and aspirations for the future. Brother, you will be deeply missed. Thank you for the wonderful memories, for the time we spent together, and for simply being the amazing person you were. Rest in peace, brother."
Fnatic’s current head coach, GrabbZ, added: "I'll miss you, Cyanide. If it weren’t for you, I never would have gotten hooked on League of Legends back in 2014."
About Cyanide
Born Lauri Happonen in Finland on November 15, 1994, Cyanide began his career as a professional League of Legends player in 2011, playing as a jungler.
Cyanide left an indelible mark on the early history of the title's e-sport. Following the 2011 World Championships, he competed alongside teammates such as sOAZ, xPeke, and YellOwStaR.
During this period, they helped the team secure three EU LCS titles between 2013 and 2014, establishing Fnatic as a dominant force in the European region and cementing their status as members of Fnatic’s first "golden generation."
Following this, Cyanide gradually faded from the top-tier professional scene, officially retiring at the end of 2022.
As a testament to his early contributions to League of Legends, he took part in an "EU LCS Classic Exhibition Match" held in France on July 25, 2026, it was an event that would ultimately mark his final public appearance.
