Maresca was impressed by Guei's ability to regain his form without being afraid to face mistakes.

Manchester City, nicknamed "The Blue Moon," will host Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium in the fourth round of the 2026/27 EFL Cup. Maresca stated that Gue is a player who is not afraid to face mistakes and is happy with his ability and responsiveness in regaining form.

In an earlier Premier League match, Manchester City defender Gueye made a mistake while controlling the ball, allowing Jackson to score. Ultimately, Manchester City lost 1-2 to Aston Villa, suffering their first league defeat of the season.

Manchester City manager Maresca said, "Especially at this stage, I'm very pleased with Guido's performance. He reacted exceptionally well to defeats. He's a very good person, a leader, and one of the team's captains. To be honest, I really admire Guido."

“When players make mistakes, they admit their problems, and Gue knows that very well. Since the start of the season, he has played almost every game for both his club and country. He hasn’t played in the Champions League for the past two weeks, and he only played 45 minutes a few days ago, so his physical condition is perfectly fine.”

Furthermore, when discussing Rico Lewis's best position, Maresca said, "Actually, he can play in both positions. Currently, Nunes is injured, so Rico Lewis performed very well in the second half against Aston Villa. He can play as a full-back or a midfielder, depending on which position we need him in more."
