2026 League of Legends World Championship: T1 defeats MKOI to advance to the quarterfinals

In the crucial Swiss round of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship, defending champion T1 defeated European team Movistar KOI (MKOI) with a total score of 2-0, securing their place in the quarterfinals.

MKOI was relegated to the final round of qualifiers, vying for the last chance to advance. The first game was fiercely contested. Early on, MKOI secured a kill on Faker in the mid lane and took control of the river resources, gaining a slight lead. However, T1, led by jungler Oner, then won a team fight in the bottom half of the map, securing kills and turning the tide in gold, and also taking the first Baron.

Faced with a passive situation, MKOI seized on T1's positioning lapses in the mid lane to launch a counterattack, and stole the dragon at the dragon pit, regaining the economic lead. In the decisive dragon soul team fight at the 40-minute mark, top laner Doran made a crucial initiation, and with the protection of support Keria, T1 crushed all five members of MKOI and secured the dragon soul. They then pushed forward and destroyed the base, taking the first game with a 20-10 kill score.

In the second game, T1 dominated the pace of the game. Early on, T1 frequently picked off isolated targets to establish an advantage, and Doran, in close coordination with his teammates, continued to widen the economic gap. In the mid-game, Faker, playing Orianna, repeatedly executed flanking maneuvers, helping his team gain complete control of the jungle and vision.

Despite MKOI managing to thwart their attempt to defend the high ground, T1 decisively defeated the entire opposing team in the subsequent mid-lane team fight. Ultimately, T1 pushed down the enemy's Nexus in just 25 minutes, securing a 21-8 kill score and ending the game smoothly.

After winning this match, T1 advanced smoothly to the quarterfinals, while MKOI will make a final push for advancement in the final round of the Swiss tournament.
