Jaisl believes Newcastle's decision-making was not decisive enough in crucial moments after their League Cup exit against Everton.

Newcastle United were eliminated 1-3 by Everton in the fourth round of the 2026/27 EFL Cup after trailing by three goals, thanks to a goal from Dan Burn. Jaisl stated that the team's performance wasn't that bad, but rather that they lacked decisiveness in crucial moments.
Everton launched a counter-attack after intercepting the ball in the 34th minute. Hayden Hackney crossed the ball into the penalty area, and James Garner slotted it home, giving Everton a 1-0 lead. In the 45th minute, Thieno Barry delivered a cross from the left wing, and Hayden Hackney volleyed it into the net, extending Everton's lead over Newcastle to 2-0.
In the 69th minute of the second half, Dusbury Hall delivered a diagonal pass from the penalty area, and Thieno Barry slotted home to extend Newcastle's lead to 3-0. In the 88th minute, Joe Willock chipped a pass from the left wing, and Dan Burn headed in to pull Newcastle back to 3-1.
Ultimately, Newcastle lost 1-3 to Everton away from home.
Newcastle manager Jaissler said in a post-match interview, "We are certainly disappointed with the result, and even a little shocked at the moment, because overall we didn't play that badly. But this reflects the problems the team has had so far this season, including our lack of decisiveness and composure in crucial moments that really determine the course of a game."
"Take the first goal for example. We were in a low-risk position and we had asked the players to clear the ball and not complicate things. But just seconds later, the opponent inexplicably scored. The second goal was equally frustrating because, in my opinion, we should have been awarded a penalty in another penalty area. Then, during the transition from attack to defense and the protection of our own penalty area, we had problems, which was equally unacceptable to me."
Jaisl pointed out, "In these situations, we have clear ways to deal with them. As for the third goal conceded, it was another serious mistake that occurred while in possession. In this level of competition, once you lose possession in such areas, the opponent will make us pay the price, and the consequences come very quickly. These are things we must learn from as soon as possible."
"I think everyone has seen the game and the relevant statistics. We created a lot of scoring opportunities, including many excellent chances. We also need to be more decisive in the opponent's penalty area to achieve different results."
Furthermore, Jaisl added, "I think we could definitely have scored more goals. If we had done what we were supposed to do, both defensively and in terms of avoiding those mistakes when in possession, we wouldn't have conceded the third goal. Therefore, when you see the final score and consider the whole game, the result is indeed hard to accept."
