Official: The Trail Blazers have exercised the team options for Klingen and Yang Hansen for the 2027/28 season.

The Portland Trail Blazers announced Thursday that they have exercised the team options for Donovan Klingen and Young Hansen’s rookie contracts for the 2027/28 season.

Klingen, 22, was the 7th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft and is currently in his third season. His salary this season is approximately $7.52 million, and is projected to reach $9.55 million in the 2027/28 season.

Since becoming the starting center in February 2025, Klingen has gradually established himself as a core player for the Trail Blazers. To date, he has played 147 regular season games for the Blazers, averaging 9.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 52.7% and a three-point percentage of 33.9%.

Under the NBA collective bargaining agreement, Klingan will be eligible for an early contract extension next July. If the two sides fail to reach an agreement, he will become a restricted free agent in 2028.

Unlike Klingon, who has secured a starting position, Yang Hansen is still in the development stage. As the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 draft, he has played 44 regular season games for the Trail Blazers so far, averaging 2.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 7.1 minutes per game.

Hans Young's salary this season is $4.64 million, and his $4.86 million salary for the 2027/28 season is also fully guaranteed. As for his team option worth $7.46 million for the 2028/29 season, the Trail Blazers will decide next year whether to exercise it.

All indications suggest that Yang Hansen is expected to spend most of the season in the mix for the Trail Blazers' G League affiliate, Rip City. Unless Klingon or Robert Williams are sidelined for any reason, he is unlikely to break into the Trail Blazers' rotation.
