Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has said that Hungarian star Szoboszlai has suffered a recurrence of an old injury and will need some time to fully recover, while defender Frimpong has suffered a new muscle injury.
Liverpool will host Villarreal from La Liga in a key match of the third round of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.
In the earlier Premier League match against Brentford, Szoboszlai was substituted off in the first half due to an injury, while Frimpong suffered a muscle injury shortly after coming on in the second half.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said, "I think their situations are different. Frimpong has a new muscle injury, which I think occurred in the second or third minute after he came on. It's hard to predict in advance, and we can only wait for him to recover."
"However, I think it will be difficult for him to return before the international break in November. We will do our best to help him recover as soon as possible, but it will probably not be easy to do so."
Andoni Iraola pointed out, "Szoboszlai's situation is different. He hasn't had any new injuries, and I think it's the same area he's injured, probably the same as last week. His injury hasn't worsened, but we may need to be more patient and wait for him to fully recover before letting him return. He doesn't need to wait a long time to return; his physical condition is roughly the same as last week."
“We just need to be more patient with him, but I appreciate the effort he put in the past few days. He wants to make the matchday squad and contribute to the team in the tough game against Brentford.”
Furthermore, Andoni Iraola added, "We all know it's going to be a very physical game, and Brentford is one of the toughest teams in the Premier League. His willingness to step up and fight for a chance to play fully demonstrates his professionalism."
