The Washington Wizards will have to wait a while longer to see their newly drafted number one draft pick make his regular season debut. Head coach Brian Keeve officially announced that star rookie AJ Debanza will miss Wednesday night's home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks due to an ankle injury.
This accident occurred during the final preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans. In the second quarter, Dibanza injured his ankle after landing unsteadily following a mid-range jump shot, falling to the ground and showing obvious pain.
Medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene to provide treatment, and Dibanza then limped back to the locker room for further examination. Before leaving the court early, he displayed excellent form, scoring 12 points efficiently in just 15 minutes on the court.
After the match, Kiefer initially diagnosed Dibanza's injury as a mild ankle sprain, and he is currently listed as day-to-day. However, the team management and coaching staff have not disclosed specific details regarding the severity of the injury, nor have they provided a clear timetable for his return, leaving the return of this highly anticipated young star somewhat uncertain.
Out of concern for the long-term health of their key player, the Wizards decided to rest him in the season opener. According to the schedule, the next theoretical window after Dibanza's regular season debut is Friday's home game against the Toronto Raptors.
Following this, the Wizards will embark on a tough three-game road trip. The team will carefully decide on Dibanza's playing time based on his recovery progress.
