Wirtz is expected to participate in the League Cup match against Chelsea.

Another key match in the fourth round of the 2026/27 EFL Cup will take place, with Liverpool hosting Chelsea at Anfield. Andoni Iraola suggests that Wirtz, who was previously injured, is likely to be fit for the game, but the chances of Szoboszlai and Victor Muñoz being able to participate are slim.

In an earlier Premier League match, Liverpool defeated Brighton 2-0 thanks to an own goal forced by Wirtz and a goal from Isak. This was the Reds' first victory at Anfield in the new Premier League season.

However, German midfielder Wirtz was substituted due to injury during the match.

When asked about the recovery of the injured players, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said, "I don't think I can provide much information right now. We need to wait and the team will train again. We hope to make good use of this day before the match."

"Wertz is doing well, and I'm quite optimistic about his availability. As for Szoboszlai and Victor Muñoz, I'm less certain. I don't want to say they can't play, but compared to Wirtz, it's definitely more difficult for them to catch up with the match."

Andoni Iraola said, "We will definitely make some adjustments to the lineup, but we hope to win the game and the team can remain competitive."

“We need to see how the players are physically fit. We have to compete not only in the League Cup but also in the Champions League, so we must rotate players between different matches as much as possible. I think it’s almost inevitable.”

In addition, Chelsea lost 0-2 to Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby in the 8th round of the Premier League, and Palmer was also shown a red card.

Andoni Iraola said, "Of course we wanted to advance to the next round, but the draw was not very lucky for us because we were drawn against Chelsea, and Chelsea's draw wasn't good either."

"We can't expect to qualify for the next round of the draw based on our performance alone; the only way to do that is to win the game."
