Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed in the pre-match press conference that key midfielder James Maddison, who had previously suffered a scare due to injury, is in good physical condition and can be included in the squad for Saturday's league match against Crystal Palace.
In Tottenham's 2-0 away win against Chelsea in the last round, 29-year-old Maddison limped off the field in the 51st minute, raising concerns. The England international has been plagued by injuries.
Last season, Maddison missed most of the season due to a serious ACL injury; in the first round of this season, he suffered a shoulder fracture and only returned to the field at the beginning of this month, where he scored a brilliant goal against Coventry.
When discussing Madison's recovery and prospects for playing, DeZerby stated clearly in an interview: "His training rhythm this week was indeed different from other players, but he is fully capable of playing in tomorrow's game. For us, James is an extremely special player."
"Players who have been sidelined for a long time often have to put in twice the effort, and Madison has maintained a high level of consistent training over the past four or five weeks. Missing two days of training won't be a real obstacle, but ultimately we still need to carefully weigh whether to take the risk of playing him in this game."
Since Maddison returned to the starting lineup, Tottenham have defeated Coventry City and Chelsea in succession, successfully escaping the relegation zone and currently sitting in 14th place in the Premier League. Since joining the club in 2023 for £40 million, Maddison has made 85 appearances, contributing 17 goals and 21 assists.
